INGROWN TOENAILS

This acutely painful condition most commonly affect eh big toenails and can result from trauma, tight shoes or bad nail cutting technique. A nail spike or spicule grows into the soft tissue as the nail grows forward. This results in the skin becoming red and swollen and eventually pus is produced.

Treatment:

  • In early stages the spicule can be removed by a podiatrist.
  • In severe cases, a minor nail surgery is conducted to remove the nail spicule, and using a caustic to prevent any re-growth.
  • Regular footbaths in antiseptic solutions may be recommended
